My 2nd week at Mirant

Actually, may 2nd week at Mirant is kinda different. There is less tension for me, di na masyadong nervous and at the same time, more excited sa task na gagawin ko. Mirant is a big company, it has different Department. I am in the I.T. Department, here is where all the network connections of all the computers in the company are located, from one computer to a different computer of other department. As my Mam jelyn, my mentor said, it is easy for them to access different datas from different department because all they have to do is click a button. :) walang hassle..


Well, this week, naging operator ako.. hahaha as in operator, like i always answer the phone, transfer calls, entertain some questions and the like. Nakakatuliro minsan coz' my times na may tumatawag tatlong calls sabay-sabay. Ang pwede kasing makapasok sa line namen is up to four calls, so minsan pag may kausap ako sa line 1 then makikita ung lines 2,3 and 4 nagbiBlink nahahagas ako, coz di ko alam alin uunahin ko. Pero after few calls naman na dumaan sa'kin, di na ko masyado bothered pag umiilaw lahat ng lines.. :) Ganun pala talaga pag start ka pa lang dun sa ginagawa mo. I was also asked to fax files to manila, nag-cramming nga ako the other day, kasi biglang nag error ung sending, di ko na alam kung aling file ang naipadala na at alin ang hindi pa. : ) nagawan ko naman ng paraan yon. Then, nagscan din ako ng mga docu nila, tapos one time pinapunta kami sa kabilang building, pinakita samin ung pagkakabit ng mga cable, mahirap pala un, ang init-init, tapos full effort pa at diskarte para maayos at malinis ung connection.

Paulit-ulit lang nangyayari sakin, fax, phone, scan, tapos minsan pag may time, nagtatanong ako ng kung anu-ano sa mentor ko. Like, kung namamanage sila ng maayos kasi ang laki-laki nung company nila, tapos na-ask ko din one time if there are some programs na exclusively para sa mga employees lang ng Mirant, meron naman daw, pero hindi nila pwede i-discuss masyado sa amin. So, to rap my 2nd week blog, Ok naman, im learning, and im happy. :) Medyo ka-jamming ko na din kasi ung iba kong mga kasamahan, though 3 lang kami usually duon, by shedule kasi ang pasok namin. I am hoping na mas madame pa ko matutunan :)

My first day in MIRANT. I was a bit nervous, because s still have no idea on which department i will be assigned. I arrived at Mirant 7:00,I was informed that we will have an Orientation. We were orinted aboutplace, the different places and offices were illustrated to us, it isa big place(hehehe). After which we were introduce to the their differentstaffs, Sir Raul, Mam Anet, Mam Jelyn, and my Supervisor Cesar Maaño.

I was assigned in the IT department. There was no work for me today.. I have a nice chat with Mam Jelyn, she told me what am i going to do for my next day. And also, i was informed about my training schedule...

I went to mirant early, coz its my second day and i was a bit excited kung anu ung gagawin ko for today. Kumain muna kami ng breakfast, before proceeding sa Office. Mam Jelyn showed me where will i stay, my place is near the telephone,so medjo kinabahan ako.. First call na ako ang sumagot, i was like whew! after i put down the phone. ANyways, later in the afternoon, sinama ako ni Mam Jelyn sa HR, she asked me to arrange the names of all of the employees alphabetically. I spend my whole afternoon there. I was not able to finish it because its to plenty, so Mam Jelyn said that i can continue my work the following day.

Still arranging the names in the HR.. I finish it just before I eat my lunch. In the afternoon, i stayed near the telephone because Mam Jelyn said that there will be plenty of calls coming na kailangan i-transfer sa ibang office. She teached me how to transfer phone calls and gave me the local numbers. I was kinda nervous, doing my first call transfer because i might dialed the wrong local :) but it was ok.. Pero I find it hard to transfer calls lalo na kapag di ko alam ung local, i have to look up in the directory before i make the transfering of call. The call that are coming kasi e magkakaiba, ung mga local numbers naman that was given to me is konti lang.

This day is a bit boring, lalo na nung morning. Kasi, parang wala masyadong gawa. I scanned documents neede by Mam Jelyn, file them up para maayos tingnan. Also i was the one incharge in sending the needed documents for the other office through Fax. And then in the afternoon, nag encode ako sa excel nung mga transactions na binigay ni Mam Jelyn.


My First 5days were great. Though wala pa masyadong ginawa related to my course, eh at least nakikita ko naman ung attitudes and things to remember if you are working in a big company like mirant. I am hoping that my following training days will bring me more knowledge and ideas in working in a corporate setting.
